United Daycare - Sustainable Childcare Center
Overview
Seven Generations is developing a sustainable childcare center for United Daycare. They required a childcare center that would lower their operating costs so they could increase salary and retain the best staff while providing a superior environment for their children and employees.
Seventy percent of United Daycare's children are at our below the poverty line. A "net zero" energy building is a sustainable strategy that would significantly reduce United Daycare's operating costs.
Seven Generations has teamed with the Colorado State University's Institute for the Built Environment to pursue the feasibility of not only a "net zero" building but the US Green Building Council-Cascadia Chapterís "Living Building Challenge". Professor Brian Dunbar and Josie Plaut of the IBE, along with numerous energetic graduate students, are assisting Seven Generations and the architect, Greg Fisher, to pursue this goal.
